L009: the next step for an RB2011 classic

For over a decade, the RB2011 line has been the go-to for affordable, flexible, and durable networking—our first router with SFP, no less. Now it’s time to move forward. We’ve kept (and improved) the essentials you loved—right down to the signature red finish and friendly price.

Why choose L009?

Performance. Features. Everyday convenience. Let’s start with the horsepower.

Modern processing, modern possibilities

At its core, L009 runs a dual-core ARM CPU, delivering big gains for:

  • routing and filtering,
  • complex firewall policies,
  • IPsec hardware encryption, and
  • advanced RouterOS functionality.

ARM brings clear advantages over older MIPS gear: access to the latest Linux kernel features and containers. Combined with the full-size USB port, that means easy custom projects—run a Pi-hole ad blocker right on the router or plug in an LTE modem. Your ideas set the limit.

Real-world acceleration

In typical deployments—from fast-path routing to intricate bridge filters—L009 is up to 4× faster than RB2011. Hardware-accelerated IPsec reduces CPU load without noticeable performance loss versus the standard driver. Expect roughly 60–90 Mbps IPsec throughput with 1400-byte packets.

Ports & power, done right

All Ethernet ports are Gigabit. Port 1 supports PoE-in, so you can power the unit without the DC jack. The last port offers PoE-Out* to feed other devices. There’s also an SFP cage that supports 1G and 2.5G; we’ve tested various MikroTik SFP modules and higher-speed cables—2.5G makes life easier for admins. Plus, a console port for quick, direct access.

Under the hood, a Marvell Peridot switch chip links to the CPU with 2.5 Gbps full-duplex for all ports except Ether1. Ether1 has its own 1 Gbps full-duplex line. Translation: flexible designs without bottlenecks.

Stronger 2.4 GHz wireless (Gen6)

The dual-chain 2.4 GHz radio now uses 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6) for up to 90% higher speeds versus previous generations—alongside better stability and responsiveness with many clients. Powerful external antennas are included, and RP-SMA connectors let you attach your own if needed.

Smarter enclosure, cooler operation

The chassis borrows the proven RB5009 form factor and doubles as a massive heat sink to protect against overheating. With a simple accessory set, you can mount up to four L009 units in a single 1U rack space.

Rack-tetris tip: pair an RB5009 with PoE-out and mount it with seven L009 routers in just two 1U slots. Clean power, tiny footprint—instant admin kudos.

Want to save more? Choose L009UiGS-RM—the same feature set without the 2.4 GHz wireless, including all rack accessories.

RB2011 will always be a legend. But if you’re ready to level up, L009 is the drop-in upgrade that saves time, money, and rack space—while keeping the spirit (and color) you loved.
